and this....I see a date night in my future...
he shuttered Italian restaurant Jethroni Pepperoni in Altoona has been transformed into Sasquatch’s new home.
Restaurateur Bruce Gerleman has rebranded the eatery at 3221 Adventureland Drive into Bigfoot Bacon & Brew.
“There have been recent sightings of Bigfoot in northeast Iowa and now he’s arrived in Altoona,” Gerleman said of the hairy, mythical creature the restaurant is named after.
Bigfoot Bacon & Brew opened Monday and offers appetizers, chicken and other sandwiches, breakfast all day, soup, salads, burgers and other entrees.
Absent from the menu is the barbecue traditionally found at Gerleman’s chain of Jethro’s BBQ-themed restaurants in the metro, including Jethro’s ‘n Jakes Smokehouse Steaks, which is blocks away from Bigfoot.
Bacon is prominently featured on the one-page menu including bacon wrapped meatballs; Sasquatch cheesy bacon dip; bacon, cheddar and jalapeno stuffed spring rolls; bacon ranch chicken sandwich; Baconfest tenderloin; and a bacon cheeseburger.
The bar features fresh-squeezed lemonade and lemon cocktails, craft beers and wine.
The interior of the restaurant was remodeled with a mythical creature theme including creatures like a white buffalo, a jackalope, unicorns and mermaids. “It’s just fun,” Gerleman said.
The restaurant, which is in former Pizza Hut restaurant, didn’t make it as an Italian eatery in part because it took too much labor to produce the extensive menu, he said. Bigfoot has pared down offerings, he said.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
